Wide load ahead. Most ride-on mowers look like small tractors with a cutting deck suspended underneath, and they cut a wide swathe of grass – anywhere from 70cm to over a metre. Compare this with the 46–48cm width of the standard walk-behind rotary mower – not to mention the fun factor of zooming around the yard – and you can see how appealing.

Lawnmower size .60 acre
I just bought a house that has a .60 acre lot. It's fairly wide open with not too many obstacles, although both sides of the backyard property line are lined with trees.
A lot of people that I've asked have recommended a riding lawn mower (around 42 inches wide). I wanted to get your thoughts on the need for one. I've seen the Toro time master walk behind (30 inches) and it seems like it could do an efficient job.
Would love anyone's thoughts on this, and when to buy as its now becoming winter. Any good off season deals?
Thanks!

Help choosing a mower for 5 acres: Lawn Tractor vs Zero Turn vs Compact Tractor?
Hi All - I'm hoping to get some advice to help me hone in on a new machine to help me wrangle my new yard. We just moved into our house in Texas hill country and I'm going to need a way to mow and maintain it. It's close to 5 acres. There are a TON of oak trees. It's not exactly a 'lawn' but rather more of a country grass. There are some rocks to deal with as well. There's not a lot of big hills to deal with but there are some little hills, bumps, stumps, holes, etc to handle. The previous owner mowed somewhere around 2acres around the house and then left the rest to grow and then knock it down with his tractor 1-2x per year. I have debated back and forth between a lawn tractor, ztr mower and a compact tractor with belly mower, etc. I am really out of my element and don't have any experience with any of them, so I'm hoping to get some wisdom from you all to help guide me a bit. I thought the ztr was the way to go, but then started thinking about how practical it would be with all those trees, etc. Then I thought maybe a good lawn tractor could help do more 'tasks' around the property such as hauling/dragging stuff behind it, etc. I dont see a 'whole lot' of that, but would be cool to be able to do it if needed. I've also acquired a huge DR leaf vac/shredder that would be towed behind whatever machine I went with. Here are a couple shots of the property.

Any advice on what direction to go along with recommendations of model would be extremely helpful. I'm northwest of Austin. I havent honed in on budget, but I'd like to keep it between $4-10k depending on what value it would provide.
